Refreshing Orange Ice Cream

This is the most refreshing ice cream you'll ever eat. Just three ingredients go into a 1-gallon ice cream maker, and it will be the hit of any summertime picnic.
Prep Time 15 minutes
Servings: 1 gallon
Course: Dessert
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 2 cans sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 large can crushed pineapple
  • 64 ounces orange soda (the original recipe called for a 2-liter bottle of Orange Crush; I use organic clementine soda that comes in 12-ounce bottles)

Method

  1. If you haven't used it in a while (like since last summer), make sure your ice cream maker is in good working order. Fill the metal canister with water and take a good look to make sure there are no leaks. You don't want salty ice cream!
  2. You might want to put a folded beach towel down underneath the ice cream machine before you fill it, to catch any condensation while it's running.
  3. Stir all of the ingredients together in the canister and run the machine, layering rock salt between layers of ice.

Notes

This recipe is sized for a 1-gallon ice cream maker. You'll need rock salt and plenty of ice.
We pour the rock salt into an empty large yogurt container or similar so we can layer it in between layers of ice. It works great.
Freeze any extra in 1-quart sealable containers for later.
It's fantastic as a topper to most pies and cakes, too.
