Ultimate Italian Turkey Supreme Pizza

Ultimate Italian Turkey Supreme Pizza

A good Italian turkey sausage and turkey pepperoni is a great tasting and healthy alternative to pork, and the flavor combination on this pizza with the sauce and the peppers is just wonderful. It makes about 8 good slices of about 300 calories each.

Ingredients

  • 10 ounces whole-wheat pizza crust
  • 15 ounces pizza sauce
  • 16 slices Italian turkey sausage
  • 24 slices turkey pepperoni
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 cup chopped green pepper
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic (about 2 cloves)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella or Italian six-cheese blend
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil or Extra Virgin Olive Oil spray

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
  2. If you're using a pan instead of the stone, coat your pan with a light coating of olive oil or olive oil cooking spray.
  3. If meat is frozen, thaw slightly.
  4. Press whole wheat pizza dough into the bottom of the pizza or baking pan and press slightly up the sides of the pan.
  5. Spread sauce evenly over the dough. Arrange Italian turkey sausage and turkey pepperoni over sauce. Sprinkle with Italian seasoning. Top with bell pepper, mushrooms, garlic, and cheese.
  6. Bake for about 15 to 20 minutes or until the crust is lightly browned on the edges and the cheese is melted.
  7. Cool in the pan for about 5 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Look for a brand of Italian turkey sausage and turkey pepperoni that contains no pork products. Add whatever toppings you love to this classic pie. My family never objects to black olives and rarely has an issue with fresh herbs like parsley. Bake in a 9x13 inch baking pan or 12-inch pizza pan. Each slice has about 292 calories, 22 grams of protein, 28.5 grams of carbs, 10 grams of fat (less than half from saturated fat), 4 grams of fiber, and lots of iron and vitamins A and C.
