People say: God will never give you more than you can handle.
That’s actually never found in scripture. What is found in scripture are things like:
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
“Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. ” 1 Chronicles 28:20
For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5
I rest my comfort in knowing that no matter what terribleness I’m going through, God is right there beside me. I can face ANYTHING because no matter what, I am not alone.
Will He give me more than I can handle? Lord, I hope not. I hope I can handle it all. But, God knows, I’ve seen the boundaries. My toe has brushed close to that foul line. Yet, I know that no matter what, I’m not alone – that God is with me. And that is what gets me through the next second, the next minute, the next hour, the next day.
As Jeb said to our dear friend whose wife (my age) was dying and we were all reeling from the idea of a life without their Aunt Carrie, “God is good even when it sucks.”
And He is here, right by my side, even when it sucks.
