Good Old Apple Pie
- pie crust (for a 2-crust pie)
- 6 to 8 apples (I do 3 Granny Smith and 3 Gala)
- ½ cup sugar
- ¼ cup flour (all purpose or whole wheat)
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ⅛ teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons butter
Prepare pie crust according to the recipe.
Peel and core apples. Thinly slice.
Heat oven to 425°F.
Place apples in a large bowl. In a smaller bowl, mix the sugar, flour, and spices. Toss with the apples.
Place in the pastry lined pie plate. Dot with butter.
Cover with top crust and crimp edges. Cover the edge with foil to prevent burning.
Bake for 30 minutes, then remove the foil. Continue baking 10 to 15 minutes, or until the crust is lightly browned and the delicious juices are bubbling up through the slits in the top crust.
