Welcome to Readers Write to Know! I asked you, my readers, what questions they would ask their favorite authors if given the chance, and the authors visiting my blog answered them! This week, I’m pleased to have Janet W. Ferguson as my guest. I love her heart for God and her readers. My own prodigal story brings a lot of realism and redemption to my stories, and hers does as well! Her new book sounds so fun! Read on to see how you can enter to win a copy!
Tell us a little bit about yourself: I was a prodigal as a young adult. Finally realizing true joy was found with our loving Father, my heart came home. So I write realistic stories of people who grapple with their faith. I have been blessed with the ability to complete 12 novels and even won a few awards, and I know that was all God! To Him be the glory. I live in Mississippi, where we say “y’all” a lot, with my husband and a spoiled cat. I love to travel and see new things, but right now my baby granddaughter is more important. She’s my heart.

Tell us about your current release: This story was a stretch for me. Not only is it a modern marriage of convenience, the hero is not a believer—at first. He is a scientist.
If you knew ahead of time your book would benefit only one person on their spiritual journey, would you still write it? Yes! I actually prayed that when writing my first novel, Leaving Oxford.
What’s the first major news headline that you can remember, and what do you remember about it? I remember our next-door neighbor crying during the Watergate speech. I had no idea why at the time.
Who was your first screen or musical crush? Oh! I loved Donny Osmond so very much! Puppy Love!
What inspired you to start writing, or did you always want to write? I deal with panic attacks while driving on the interstate, and I wanted to write a novel that dealt with dispelling some of the shame that is attached with depression, anxiety, and other mental disorders. That somehow turned into a Southern Christian romance—Leaving Oxford.

What made you take the plunge and finally do it? Both of my parents and my mother-in-law passed away within 2 months. I decided that life is short, if I was called to write a novel, I should sit down and get it done.
What advice do you have for aspiring writers? Join a writing group for the genre you want to write, read books on the craft of writing, and be careful of scams. Do not get in a hurry. Writing is a long game. I edited my first novel for 4 years, but meanwhile, I kept writing new stories.
What is the farthest location you traveled to in order to research a book? Scotland! For my next novel, if I get it written.
