Wonderful Chewy Kiss-Filled Brownies
- 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 2/3 cup butter, melted and divided
- 1/2 cup boiling water
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 3/4 cups large chocolate chunks (like Nestle Baking Chunks or Hershey’s Mini Kisses)
- 2/3 cup chopped nuts (I used pecans)
Grease a 13x9x2 baking pan.
Melt the butter. Chop the nuts.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Mix the cocoa and baking soda.
Stir in 1/3 cup melted butter and the boiling water. Stir well.
Stir in the sugar, eggs, and remaining 1/3 cup butter.
Stir in the vanilla.
Add the flour and salt. Mix well.
Stir in the chocolates and nuts.
Spread into the prepared pan.
Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until the edges begin to pull away from the sides of the pan.
Cool completely on a wire rack. Cut into bars.

Don’t cut into these warm. The chocolate inside of them will still be melted, and they will have no integrity (voice of experience here).
