Santa Cupcakes

Festive Santa faces piped onto cupcakes with buttercream and decorating candies. Insist to everyone that, yes, they’re good to eat, not just look at.
Prep Time 1 hour
Servings: 24
Course: Dessert
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 1 batch cupcakes (I made Yummy Yellow Cake)
  • 1 batch buttercream frosting
  • peach and brown food coloring
  • red food coloring
  • pink pearl decorating candies
  • blue or green pearl decorating candies
  • red jimmies
  • mini marshmallows
  • red sugar sprinkles

Method

  1. Make any batch of cupcakes and a batch of buttercream frosting.
  2. Tint enough of the frosting flesh colored to frost all of the cupcakes. I used a little bit of peach color and a little bit of brown. I tinted about 1 1/2 cups of frosting. Frost the cupcakes.
  3. Tint about 3/4 cup of frosting red. Using a knife, frost about half of the top half of a cupcake red, like a swoosh. This is Santa’s hat.
  4. With a star tip (#16) and white frosting in a decorating bag, line the edge of the hat with small stars.
  5. Where the mouth would go, make an arc for the mustache.
  6. Working in a half circle, draw down the lines of the beard.
  7. With pink pearl decorating candies, place Santa’s nose.
  8. Using blue or green pearls, place Santa’s eyes.
  9. Place a red jimmie in between the mustache and the beard for his mouth.
  10. Put a mini marshmallow at the end of the hat.
  11. With red sugar sprinkles, give Santa some rosy cheeks.

Notes

It really isn’t hard to turn this into a mirror image with green instead of red and touches of brown instead of white to make little elf cupcakes.
These go great with Rudolph cupcakes. I make them together.
You’ll need a decorating bag and a #16 star tip.
