Spider Rolls

Yeast rolls shaped into spiders, with bent legs and olive eyes, for Halloween.
Prep Time 30 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Servings: 12 spiders
Course: Bread
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 1 batch yeast roll dough
  • oil spray
  • olives, for eyes

Method

  1. Make yeast rolls. After the initial rise, break the dough apart into equal portions. I go ahead and cut them as I would rolls. It will take two rolls to make each spider.
  2. On a cookie sheet, crumple two 3-inch lengths of tinfoil to make two “sticks” of foil. Grease the cookie sheet and spray oil on the foil.
  3. Break two rolls’ worth of dough into thirds. Roll one third into a ball and place it on the cookie sheet, with the foil on either side. With enough room for the dough to rise, make a line of dough balls down the length of the foil sticks.
  4. Break each of the other two portions of dough into four pieces and roll them into “legs.” Place them under the ball of dough on the cookie sheet and over the foil so that the legs, when cooked, will be “bent.”
  5. Let rise for one hour.
  6. Bake at 400 degrees F for no longer than 20 minutes. Watch it closely because the legs will brown a little faster than the “body.”
  7. Use olives to make eyes.
